Our mission is to provide the scientific community with quality biological samples and data essential for advancing medical research and developing new therapeutic approaches.

MEDIXBANK biobank was established to support research projects conducted by MEDIREX GROUP ACADEMY n. o. It has been growing continually since 2020 thanks to several research projects and biomedical studies led by this leading scientific and research institution. The implemented projects enabled the creation of the MEDIXBANK archive, now featuring tens of thousands of samples from thousands of participants. The biobank contains an extensive pool of samples including blood, serum, plasma, tissue, FFPE tissue blocks, native tumor tissue samples, isolated DNA, nasal swabs, stool samples, and other biological specimens from studies of colon, endometrial, and prostate cancer, Lynch syndrome, diabetes mellitus, IBD, COVID-19 (including the post-Covid syndrome), and other diseases, as well as extensive pools of samples from control population.

MEDIXBANK follows standardized operational protocols (SOPs) and the ISO9001:2016 standard, both ensuring robust quality management. Sample collection and transport take place in cooperation with the MEDIREX GROUP laboratories, working in compliance with the ISO15189:2012 and ISO9001:2016 accredited standards.

After processing the samples and creating aliquots, the samples are placed for long-term storage in cooling systems at -20 °C and -80 °C and at liquid nitrogen temperature. Samples and relevant data are recorded in Open Specimen, the dedicated and globally used biobank system. In MEDIXBANK, this system was adapted for the Slovak research ecosystem in cooperation with physicians, scientists, and IT specialists.
