He has been systematically focusing on the field of chronic liver diseases<\/strong>, portal hypertension and other complications of liver cirrhosis for many years. He has been involved in this research field since he joined the then 1st internal clinic of the General Faculty Hospital in Prague in 1988 and it was also the subject of his habilitation at the 1st. Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague in 2001. He deals with this medical specialty branch both in terms of practical clinical care for patients as well as research. Together with his collaborators from IVth internal clinic of the 1st Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, her is the author of two multicentre studies in the Czech Republic, which addressed the issue of bleeding from esophageal varices. Simultaneously, he was also a co-investigator of many other national and international studies. He is a member of the working group for portal hypertension at Czech Hepatological Society (\u010cHS), which develops recommended procedures and guidelines in the care of patients with complications of liver cirrhosis.<\/p>

Another field of his interest are metabolic liver diseases<\/strong> – especially Wilson’s disease. He also deals with endoscopic and invasive methods related to liver diseases – in particular the issues related to bile ducts of portal hypertension.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

He is the author or co-author of more than 100 professional articles in domestic and foreign journals. Professor Br\u016fha has been a member of \u010cHS for more than 25 years, since 2010 he has been the vice-chairman of the society and in In 2018, he became the president of \u010cHS. He is a member of EASL – The European Association for the Study of the Liver and in 2001 he was a member of the organizing committee of the EASL Congress in Prague.<\/p>
